TEMUSS HISTORY
Temuss Products was founded in 1948 by the late Mr. Harry Smith.
Following World War II, Mr. Smith, a chemist, worked with various
resins and coatings for the CIL Company. After a couple of years
with the Company he decided he could operate successfully on his
own. In 1948 he began working in his basement manufacturing a few
pounds of shellac at a time, experimenting and constantly refining
the process. After two years of this he was producing a high quality
product.
Teaming up with a few partners he obtained a small building in
Toronto to operate in and began marketing 200 - 300 pounds of shellac
daily. By 1952 that property became too small and Temuss Products
relocate to Ajax, Ontario.
Today the Company still operates In the same building that once
was part of Canada's war effort. The building which at one time
filled mortars and shells wtth ammunition and explosives has been
modified and expanded over the years to meet tile constantly increasing
demand for shellac. The staff at Temuss Products which originally
began with 3 in 1950 has increased considerably with the plant operating
almost around the clock.
Temuss Products is the only shellac producer in Canada and one
of two in North America. Over the years as demand for Temuss Shellac
increased the company has grown to meet those needs and has many
valued customers throughout the world.
